Mothering Sunday – Help Revive Our Mothers

Mothering Sunday – Help Revive Our Mothers

Mothering Sunday in Ireland is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent (6th March 2016).  This gives us the opportunity to spoil our mums and shower them with gifts, cards and messages of love and appreciation.

The history of this celebration can be traced back to medieval times when children were sent to work as servants.  Once a year they were provided the opportunity to return home to visit their ‘Mother Church’ and their mothers.  They would present their mothers with gifts of flowers which they picked along the route home.

The gifts have become easier to come by these days but the principle of thanks and appreciation remains the same.

It is said that many children take better care of their cars then they do their mothers. Our cars only last us a few years but our mothers are for life.

With that in mind, here are some options to choose from this Mother’s Day to show your mum that you do care for her more than your car.

  • Fuel Levels – To maintain your mum’s fuel levels, take her out for a lovely lunch or dinner or cook a lovely meal for her at home.
  • Battery – Recharge her battery by ensuring that she gets her feet up on the day and that all the usual chores are carried out by you. Random hugs and kisses also help with battery maintenance.
  • Body – we all run best if we look after our bodies. Regular exercise helps to keep our bodies in check so this Mother’s Day take your mum for a leisurely walk or for the adrenaline junkies out there, take her water-skiing, biking, rollerblading……..
  • Breaks – make sure she takes some time out.Mothering sunday
  • Fine Tuning – we need regular fine tuning. Hugs, kisses, thanks, words of appreciation and compliments are the most cost effective measures to ensure this is maintained.
