Exercise is Food for the Brain
Simple exercise can improve your brain performance and cognitive function and here are some of the reasons why.
- Exercise helps your brain sprout new synapse.
What are synapses, you may ask? Synapses are the connection points where one neuron communicates with the other.
- Exercise makes you happy.
The hardest part of going for a walk is getting out that door. Think about how great you feel when you do get out.
- Exercise can enhance the growth of new blood vessels.
Our brains are the top consumer of oxygen in the body, therefore the more blood vessels you create through exercise the better our brains can function.
- Exercise releases dopamine.
Dopamine is the neurotransmitter associated with pleasure. Dopamine is released when you exercise, creating an all over feeling of wellbeing.
This week is Brain Awareness Week, get on your trainers and get out there!
