Beauty Tips for Prepping for Your Big Day

Posted by Olga Markuse on

Olga Markuse is a wedding hairstylist, makeup artist, blogger and hair educator. In this article, she gives her top beauty tips on getting ready and prepping for a big event – be it your wedding, a birthday or anything else.

Let’s skip talking about water consumption – I bet you have had enough of hearing about that!

1. Beauty Tip: Give Yourself Plenty of Time

My most important Beauty Tip is to give yourself enough time. You might want to try a few new things in the run up to your event like skincare, cosmetic procedures or maybe a new hair colour. Allow at least 6 months to see what works best and follow the routine that proves right for you. You’ll want to be as chilled as possible before your big day, so having some buffer time will enable this – if something doesn’t go to plan, you’ll still have time to sort it out!

2. Don’t Forget About Your Lips

A simple yet effective beauty tip is to remember to take care of your lips. I feel like we don’t talk enough about lips, and even those whose skincare is totally on point might still experience some dryness. This can be particularly problematic if your event is in the colder months, or you’ve been out in the sun lots. Using some natural ingredient-based products overnight will make your lips super soft and ready for makeup within a week. My personal favourites are shea butter or lanolin-containing balms.

3. Hair Care: Style Starts with Healthy Strands

Now, let’s talk about hair. A big one! I am sure there’s nothing new about the fact that healthy and well-looked-after strands are essential for any hairstyle. Another beauty tip, haircut makes a huge difference in creating the style that you choose. For instance, if you’re looking to have sleek Hollywood waves for your big event, you should try to grow any layers that you might have because different lengths are usually a lot more difficult to blend. On the other hand, too heavy and blunt hair might not be the easiest to put up in a messy bun. Most of my clients book their hair 12-18 months in advance, and it’s worth consulting with your hairstylist to see whether you need to make any changes to your current haircut for your desired style.

Beauty Tips

As for your hair colour, One beauty tip you shouldn’t skip is to thoroughly consider any drastic changes, because you’ll probably want to look like yourself for your big event, but also because hair dye, and particularly lightener, can be quite drying and as a result, you might lose some of the length (I am talking from my experience of working with clients over the years). This last piece of advice applies to the blonde ladies: please don’t stretch your appointments, even if you want to plant them around certain dates. A longer time between having your roots done might end up in very unpleasant results, and that’s something you certainly don’t need before your event!

4. Beauty from Within

Lastly, we all know that healthy skin, hair and nails comes from within. Revive Active Beauty Complex is a great addition to a nutritious and balanced diet, packed with with marine collagen, hyaluronic acid and vitamins to support your hair, skin and nails — the perfect supplement to add to your daily routine alongside your healthy diet in the lead-up to your event.
